This provides an Index to our resources related to Churchyard burials (and other non-municipal cemeteries associated with churches).

Many of the plans were hand-drawn from the 1986/87 surveys and are therefore not quite as good quality as later digital images.

Newchurch All Saints Churchyard and extension   1901-1934   An overview of the site can be found at Site plan All the original headstones in the Churchyard were cleared and relaid as paths. No formal transcriptions of these were made, as far as we know. The Churchyard extension remains, with a further area used to the east as the Parish Cemetery.

1. Newport : St Thomas's Church does not have a burial ground; events registered here indicate that the burials took place elsewhere, most likely Fairlee Cemetery, Newport
1a. Newport : St Thomas's Church; burials from the early 17th C to the mid 18th C were made at Church Litten. The area was cleared in 1944 and records made of plots and visible inscriptions are held by the County Record Office, Newport. A modern transcription of the plan and burial entries was made by Alan Stroud/Richard Brimson in 2020 and can be found on the iwhistory.org website.
2. Cowes : St Faith's Church does not have a burial ground; events registered here indicate that the burials took place elsewhere, most likely at Northwood Cemetery
3. March 2010 : Brighstone : St Mary's Church : entries for 1988-2009 have been made using transcriptions of the visible headstones in the Churchyard extension, and many photographs have been added for the Churchyard extension
4. March 2010 : Sandown : Christ Church : entries for 1847-1900 have been made using transcriptions of the visible headstones in the Churchyard, and many plot locations, dates of death and relationships have been added from Monumental Inscriptions for the majority of the entries. (Thanks to Tina Lambert for retyping original transcriptions)
5. July 2010 : Brading : St Mary's Church : entries for 1567-1900 and 1988-2009 have been made using transcriptions of the visible headstones in the Churchyard, and many plot locations, dates of death and relationships have been added from Monumental Inscriptions for the majority of the entries. Note that there seems to be 2 varieties of section / plot numbering for these. Work in process : adding photographs of many of the headstones in the churchyard (currently about 800 have been added). 6. July 2010 : Wootton churches : entries for 1767-1900 have been made using transcriptions from the Funeral Services Registers as published by the Parish Church Archive (with acknowledgements)
7. December 2010 : Gatcombe : St Olave's Church : entries for 1644-1900 have been made using transcriptions from the Monumental Inscriptions recorded in 1986/7 (Thanks to Di Hayter for retyping original transcriptions)

12. April 2012 : added entries for more recent headstones in the New Section of the churchyard, and added over 100 photos. Many of the older headstone inscriptions are now illegible.
13. April 2011 : Brook : St Mary's Church : entries for 1727-1900 have been made using transcriptions of the visible headstones in the Churchyard, with plot locations using transcriptions from the Monumental Inscriptions recorded in 1986/7 (Thanks to Di Hayter for retyping original transcriptions)
14. April 2011 : Totland : Christ Church : entries for 1883-1900 and 1969-2011 have been added using the Funeral Registers. (thanks to Robin Gosden for research and transcriptions)
15. November 2011 : Calbourne : All Saints' Church : entries for 1700-1975 have been added using the transcriptions of the visible headstones. Note that no dates of burial have been recorded, only dates of death. (thanks to Di Hayter for research and transcriptions)
16. January 2012 : Northwood : St John's Church : entries for 1697 - 1900 have been added using the data from the Northwood Village website. You may notice some discrepancies between this presentation and that on the Northwood Village website as some entries for illegible headstones have been removed, and some data corrections have been made. (thanks to Alan Welfoot for the download of the Northwood Village database).
17. January 2012 : Thorley : St Swithin's Church : entries for 1631 - 1897 have been added using the transcriptions of the visible headstones. Note that no dates of burial have been recorded, only dates of death. (These refer to the old burial ground, not the churchyard of the present Church). (thanks to Tina Lambert for re-typing transcriptions)
18. March 2012 : Carisbrooke : St Mary's Church : entries for 1640 - 1899 have been added using the transcriptions of the visible headstones. Note that there are quite a number of discrepancies in dates recorded on headstones compared to those in funeral registers. (thanks to Di Hayter for re-typing transcriptions)
19. November 2012 : Chale : St Andrew's Church : entries for 1697-1900 have been added using the transcriptions of the visible headstones. (thanks to Di Hayter for research and transcriptions)
20. December 2012 : Newtown : Church of the Holy Spirit : some entries for 1831-1900 and 1961-2010 have been added using the transcriptions of the visible headstones, although many from pre-1900 are illegible. 94 headstone images have been added.

22. December 2012 : Colwell Bay : Baptist Church : a few entries have been added using transcriptions of some of the visible headstones. (thanks to Geoff Allan for photos and for transcriptions)
23. January 2013 : Cowes : St Mary's Church : about 80 entries have been added using transcriptions of the visible headstones in St Mary's Churchyard. About 25% of the 200 or so headstones have legible inscriptions. The majority of the burials recorded will refer to burials at Cowes (Northwood) Cemetery

24. January 2013 : Wootton : St Edmund's Church : further entries and 120 photographs have been added using transcriptions of the visible headstones in St Edmund's Churchyard (but not the newer extension). About 50% of the 230 or so headstones have legible inscriptions.

25. December 2013 : Carisbrooke : St John's Church : a plan of the churchyard showing burials (surname and year only) before the churchyard was cleared has been added. Some of the burials have been identified from other sources.

26. September 2014 : Totland Bay : St Saviour's R.C. Church : 74 photographs identifying 116 individuals have been added to the database, mainly for the older burials. Note that this is not a comprehensive survey of this Burial ground, nor a transcript of the Burial Registers held.

August 2019 : Added several entries for burials at the 'Weston Manor' burial ground - which was the private WARD family grounds, which became the core of the St Saviour's burial ground,
27. September 2014 : Thorley : St Swithin's Church : 30 photographs identifying 42 individuals have been added to the database, for burials in the present Churchyard. Note that this is not a comprehensive survey of this Churchyard, nor a transcript of the Burial Registers held.
