Membership system and website issues

On Sunday 21 July at about 4.30 am, our membership system began generating e-mail messages indicating that your membership needed to be renewed, and that you may have bought tickets for one of our events.

This was caused by a rogue database entry which triggered the messages. We do not know how this rogue entry was created.

The additional effect was that it swamped the available space allocated to our website, which then failed.

We contacted our software developers on Sunday who performed some fixes to enable the website to be restored, but it was not until Monday 22 July that services were restored fully.

As we had no means of contacting affected members on Sunday morning, we posted a message on our Facebook Group and a warning on our website home page but not all members would have seen this before the website failed.

We are working through a backlog of about 100 messages to try to recover the position. Thanks to our Membership Secretary and Treasurer for assistance in this.

IT IS STRESSED THAT YOU NEED TAKE NO ACTION if you have not already done so.

We would like to apologise to all our members for any confusion and inconvenience caused.

We would stress that this had nothing to do with the widely reported "Crowdstrike" problems also occurring that weekend.
