County Record Office opening arrangements

We have had the following message from Richard Smout regarding the County Record Office, in Newport, Isle of Wight :

The Record Office will be continuing to be open four days a week [Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday], and we will still be asking our visitors to book a slot .. either a morning or afternoon session … 9:30 to 12:30 or 1:30 to 4:30. Booking has enabled us to improve our service to those who are visiting, as (where we know the topic) it helps us to prepare for visits in advance, and can maximise the use of the visitor’s time. Items can be ordered on the day, but where they can be identified beforehand that will be a huge help to everyone concerned. It is likely that booking will continue until, at least, the end of the calendar year, but no final decision has been taken about this yet.

The next few weeks, in particular, may produce a number of challenges. We are particularly aware that staffing could be affected at short notice by the need to follow advice to self-isolate, and so we will endeavour to get in touch with those booked, as soon as possible, should we be faced with a problem. Members are strongly advised not to make a journey without contacting us in advance.
