MEETINGS

There are regular meetings at a central venue in Newport on the island where speakers cover topics ranging from local history to the use of particular sources. The meeting fee is £1 for members and £1.25 for non-members.

We have a One-Day Conference in May each year which features well known Island and mainland speakers.

Full details of meetings and outings are published in the journal. For the latest news on these see Programme of Events

RESEARCH

The aim of the society is to help members to undertake their own research. We try to offer every help to our members, particularly those who are just beginning. When volunteers are available we provide a limited research service, in return for expenses, for members who are unable to visit the island. If lengthy investigations are required we can recommend professional researchers who can be employed.

RESOURCE CENTRE & RESEARCH MATERIAL

Our books and records are now under one roof at our Resource Centre in St Thomas Square, Newport. Here we have a reference library containing an excellent variety of books and a very comprehensive collection of micro-fiche and CDs which can be viewed on our readers and on our computers. There is also a book stall stocking a wide range of reasonably priced books and booklets which can be ordered by post and a large stock of journals of other societies throughout Britain. A list of our books is available and is also on our Website under 'BOOKS' and 'Booklist' where they can be ordered through The Parish Chest and GENfair using a secure credit card system.
The opening times for the Research Rooms are:
Saturday - 10 am - 12.30 pm

There may be occasions when the rooms will not be open at these time so do check with Mrs Betty Dhillon Tel. 01983 524469 before making a long journey.

JOURNAL

We publish a quarterly journal. The subscription year runs from 1st January but anyone joining during the year receives the four journals for that year. The journal contains a 'Help Wanted' section and members can place enquiries in this section free of charge. Articles and items for the journal (no need to be typed, just clearly written) are always welcomed by our editor. E-mail contact : Click for email address

VISITS and OTHER ACTIVITIES

Coach trips to all important London Repositories are made several times a year and visits arranged to places of interest both on the island and the mainland. See Programme of Events for details. There are also Open days and exhibitions.

SUBSCRIPTION

The annual subscription is £9 for U.K. members and E.U. members. £12 for family membership (two members at one address receiving one magazine but both with voting rights) and £15 for overseas members. Remittances should be made in sterling or sufficient extra added to allow for the conversion charge. Overseas members are advised to use our secure credit card system through the Parish Chest (see How to join). The Subscriptions year runs from 1st January until 31st December of each year and are renewable on 1st January of each year.
