Abraham, Newport - advertising card - close up
|
These photos of a damaged advertising card were supplied by Eve Ward - her grandfather used the back of the card for sketching, and they show the butcher's shop of Alfred William Abraham and Co in Upper St James Street Newport. The company were
still listed at this address in the 1915 Kelly's Directory.

Fire Brigade Funeral parade, Shanklin
|
Photos from the effects of Sally-Ann Garrett's father. One is of a funeral in Shanklin, post 1910. I don't know who the funeral was for. I have enlarged the sign on the right hand side and it says "W Morris, Tailor and Costumier". My Grandfather, Frederick Choat is standing in front of the first pillar to the left of the shop.
The other photos are of the High Street in the Old Village Shanklin - then known as Commercial Place. His shop was at the bottom of the street - he was a Tobacconist and Newsagent.

The Shorwell photos come from the collection of Steve Palmer (member 1455) and his wife Barbara (nee Downer), who comes from Shorwell.
Her grandfather, Ted Downer (born 1892) was a cousin of Arthur Willsteed (born Southampton 1878); he and his brother produced postcards in Southampton
in the early part of the 20th century, many of which showed Island scenes. |
