Monumental Inscriptions and Burial Indexes

This page is intended to be a master index of where you might find online Monumental Inscriptions (both inside and outside the Churches) and Burial Indexes for the Cemeteries and Churchyards of the Isle of Wight. Although there is a great deal of local work going on to record this information, there is perhaps no overall picture of which records have been transcribed, nor which monumental inscriptions have been recorded. The Society would be pleased to receive information about any further publications or websites which cover any of the gaps in the table below. Thanks also to those individuals and organisations who have provided information to date, including Pat Phillips (Arreton records and Chapels), Janet Griffin; and Alan Kimber for many of the photographs.

Information received is presented in good faith. Users of this page shoud be aware that there may be errors in transcription and original sources should be used to cross check if possible

Please send any information to Geoff Allan. Click for email address

The Isle of Wight County Record Office is the principal location to find the Cemetery Registers and the Burial Registers from the Parish Registers for the established Church of England, the Roman Catholic Churches, and the Non Conformist Churches.
The Bereavements Services Office of the Isle of Wight Council should be contacted if you are trying to find the location of a particular burial in the civil cemeteries.
The National Burial Index is a national index of Burial records; it is far from complete but may provide some information for other counties.
See also Isle of Wight Cemetery Wardens (Footprint Trust).

To contact individual Church officers see Wight Churches Online - The Methodist Churches have their own web pages as linked below.
